You know where everything is, so why would you bother labelling anything? As you get older, you may find that other people are coming in to help you with things, or you might have an unexpected hospital stay. So labelling things in kitchen cupboards, bathroom cupboards and your wardrobe will make it much easier for people to help you. If you ever worked in an office, the most efficient ones were those that labelled things in the stationery cupboard, so it’s the same theory at home. It would also help if you or your partner have dementia, as you may start to find you cannot remember where things are or what they’re for. This is also a good reason to label things in order to aid you or them to live an easier life.
One of the areas we come across that is most out of control is the ‘sheets and towels cupboard’. Often households have multiple sized beds, which when someone else ends up doing your washing or changing your bed, can be quite bamboozling for them! Or you may have fixed ideas on which towels are used for what purpose, so labelling really can help. See next month for an upcoming blog on how to store and organise sheets and towels!
Of course, another thing you could do as well or instead, is to make a list of your cupboards and what is where inside them. It would be a great start!
