Taxi Card Scheme

Did you know that most councils in the UK offer something called a TaxiCard scheme?

It is a scheme to help people who have disabilities or mobility difficulties get around more easily and affordably.

For most schemes there are discounted taxi fares; members get a set number of subsidised taxi journeys each year. You pay a reduced fare, and the council covers the rest.

Crucially, licensed taxi firms in the scheme often provide wheelchair-accessible vehicles.  The scheme is for those who have serious mobility impairments, receive disability-related benefits (like higher-rate mobility allowance), or find public transport very difficult or impossible to use.

You can apply through your local council or borough’s website. Each council has its own eligibility rules and number of trips allowed.  You can apply here if you are in London https://www.londoncouncils.gov.uk/services/taxicard

If you know someone who might benefit from this, do let them know about it.
